Flood washed out house at Anpum
At least ten people have died in flood related incidents in Arunachal Pradesh. The state has been battling heavy and intermittent rain since early June rendering thousands homeless as well damaging roads, water supply and other infrastructure. The border districts of Anjaw, KurungKumey and Dibang Valley remains cut off. Nine of the 19 districts have been facing severe flood related problems including the State Capital Itanagar. Lower Dibang Valley and Lohit, Namsai district have been the worse hit as several villages were under water. All the major rivers including Lohit, Siang and Dibang were well above the danger mark and though water levels have since receded but the villagers’ continue to face uphill battle of rebuilding lives. Dibang, one of the biggest rivers in the state changed the course in Dambuk area leaving a trail of devastation along the way.
The states of Arunachal and Assam have been facing flood crisis for decades now but little has been done to mitigate the perennial flood.
