Doubt

I believe you O’ man with the gun

you were scared of the pen-wielding woman

and had to use your gun

to silence her.

I believe you O’ man with the gun

the man, with a stone in his hand, you shot

could have killed you

had you not acted on the spur.

I believe you O’ man with the gun

the young man in your tight grip

your gun to his head

died for he refused to cooperate.

I believe you O’ man with the gun

guardian angel of all humanity

your dress stained with someone’s fresh blood

speaks of your sacrifice and dread.

I believe you O’ man with the gun

they are no longer scared. They doubt

and disregard you, your gun

and the dripping red on your hands.

May I ask, O’ man with the gun

is it possible to doubt just once

without fear and fingers on a trigger

and hold flowers in your hands?
